SIDMA College Kota Kinabalu recently organised a Staff Day Out for all its 150 SIDMA College and UNITAR International University Sabah Regional Centre staff from 20-22 October 2017. It was jointly organised by SIDMA’s Human Resource (HR) and Students Affairs Departments (STAD).

It was really an outing to remember as all SIDMA staff headed by Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Chairman and Founder SIDMA College), Madam Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Relations and Business Development), Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), Madam Izah Muhilin (Head, Human Resource), Mr Terence B. Stephen (Acting Head, STAD), Head of Departments, lecturers and staff of SIDMA College and their family participated in the two days event held at Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Tuaran

The highlight of the significant outing was the SIDMA Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation which was held on 21 October 2017 at Rasa Ria Grand Ballroom 1. During the event, Dr Morni presented Long-service Award to SIDMA staff who have contributed their five (5), or ten (10) years of their continuous service to the college.

The “Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation for their loyal and dedicated service” was presented to two categories of staff as follows:

  1. 5 Years Award - 33 staff Recipients
  2. 10 Years Award - 13 staff Recipients

Dr Morni who personally handed the award to each of the respective staffs conveyed his congratulations and heartfelt appreciation to them for their excellence and loyal services to the college. Each of the recipients will also receive monetary reward which will be banked into their personal account.

Earlier, during his Year End Mandate Address, Dr Morni thanked all staff for having continuously demonstrating their excellence services to the college. According to him, SIDMA staff have worked together just like the dragon boat paddlers where the entire team currently “row” with the same rhythm, thus enabling SIDMA College to consistently excel and outperform its competitors. He said in a dragon boat team, they have to work in the same direction. If the paddles don’t hit the water at the same time, they will knock each other, creating inefficiency causing the team to lose. In the meantime, if the paddler don’t reach far enough with the paddles, they don’t deliver enough power and the boat goes slower. If it is not deep enough, then the paddler are wasting energy and power. Every person has to work in sync. Dr Morni applies this concept in business. If a particular department is not delivering the right kind of service or performance, other will be affected and eventually then the business might risk failure.

However, he added that with the emerging of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), the latest evolution in the digitisation and automation of manufacturing processes, which incorporates advanced sensors, machine-to-machine communication links, robotics, artificial intelligence, big data analytics and cloud computing technology, Dr Morni added that SIDMA team need to be at their very best, both professionally and physically mature, and also the undivided collective team efforts. Like during a dragon boat race, individual success of team-mates add up to greater success of the whole team. Thus he urged all SIDMA members to focus on forming a collectively strong teamwork, emphasising on helping team members to understand, excel and seek opportunities to apply their strength, learn new skills and perspective, and ensure that everyone on the team stay relevant all the time.

Dr Morni admitted that he have harboured personal ambition, such as travelling round the island of Borneo in his own boat, or riding on a big bike with other Big Bike members around Sabah. However, because his priorities are for the welfare of his SIDMA staff and students, he deferred his personal interests first, and stay focus and concentrating only on SIDMA staff and student’s needs.

The SIDMA Staff Day Outing, the staff bonus, supply of school uniforms for staff with schooling children in January 2018 and more are some of the examples that Dr Morni and SIDMA’s Board of Directors (BOD) have shared their harvest with all the staff members and their families.

SIDMA Live Band performed by SIDMA very own staff presented various music and songs to keep the staff entertained throughout the Dinner night. Meanwhile, Mr Harman B. Mastari and Ms Nur Fatin Hazirah Binti Ibrahim were selected as the Prom King and Queen of the night, based on their unique and best attire that observed to the Dinner theme, “floral”. Throughout the evening, a total of 27 lucky draws with attractive hampers and prizes were won by staff.

Earlier, on 20 October 2017, all SIDMA staff were invited to participate in a tele-match that was organised with the collaboration of Rasa Ria staff. Five teams of SIDMA staff competed joyously in the game, amidst loud cheers and laughter. Team Magenta (Dark Pink) emerged as the champion of the tele-match. Team Blush (Light Pink) was the 1st Runner up while the remaining three team from Team White, Team Purple and Team Blue shared same point thus sharing the same spot for second runner up.

Dr Morni and the BOD have also sponsored lunch for the staff prior to them check-in into their respective rooms. Dr Morni also took the opportunity to send his gratitude to Kupi-kupi FM for sponsoring SIDMA Grand Prize Lucky Draw of a Philips 43” LED Smart TV won by Mr Bryan. He also congratulated Madam Izah and Mr Terence for organising the grand dinner, and he thanked all staff who have contributed in one way or another for the successful organising the event.
