SIDMA College held a humble Certificate Presentation Ceremony for its first cohort of 74 Diploma Early Childhood (DECE) students who had completed their PERMATA Early Childhood Education and Childcare Course (Kursus Asuhan dan Didikan Awal Kanak-Kanak PERMATA) (KAP) through its collaboration with Sunshine Mastercare Sdn Bhd which was held at the College on 12 September 2017.

KAP is a comprehensive training programme drawn up by the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia consisted of various modules which among others include licensing’s requirement from respective government agencies such as Social Welfare Department, Fire Department, Health Department, as well as from City Hall or the local municipality council (Majlis Perbandaran). The comprehensive duration for KAP taken full-time requires 144 hours and the participants need to complete another 40 hours of practical at childcare centre (Taman Asuhan Kanak-kanak -TASKA).

Regulation 54 of the TASKA Rules 2012 made it compulsory all employers, managers, supervisors and caregivers to attend and pass the PERMATA Course within twelve working months. Due to this, SIDMA College took the initiative to introduce the course to its’ DECE student to prepare and equip them prior to the start of their career upon completion of their DECE.

Among the important guest who have attended the Certificate Presentation Ceremony were Datin Rahimah Quadra and Datuk Leong Pau Chu from Sunshine Mastercare Sdn Bhd and both were the past presidents for the Association of Childcare Services Sabah (PPTS). During the ceremony, SIDMA College was represented by Madam Azizah Khalid Merican the CEO, and Mr Lim Chin Tong the Registrar.

Madam Azizah Khalid Merican, in her welcoming speech thanked Datin Rahimah and Datuk Leong for their valuable time and effort to collaborate together with SIDMA College in ensuring the success of the course conducted in-house at SIDMA College City Campus. She said that the course will guarantee the participants to get the best preparation especially in opening their own childcare centre at their respective hometown. Establishing their own childcare centre is big opportunity for the students as in the current era, whereby for certain families, both parents will be working hence their children will definitely need to be sent to the childcare centre and as the number of such centre is relatively low, the participants will be able to open their own and establish it and possibly can also get the franchise from well-known early childcare Franchisor as part of their business strategy.

Ms Siti Norizan binti Jalin, students’ representative, on behalf of all the participants conveyed their sincere thanks and appreciation for giving them the opportunity to participate in the course. Throughout the course and during their practicum, they felt the importance of the course particularly for those who will be handling the day-care institutions either as employers or caregivers, and hope that more of the DECE students be given opportunities to attend such course.

On the same day, more than 60 SIDMA DECE students who had completed their 12 weeks Teaching Practicum (six weeks at Kindergartens followed by another 6 weeks at Nursery / Day-care Institutions) were given the opportunity to attend a three (3) hours professional grooming session conducted by Madam Jenifer Abdullah, a former Senior Education Officer whom during her 38 years of service has attended as well as conducted various staff professional development programmes at various schools, state and national level.
