Eid-Al-Adha (Hari Raya Haji) is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to follow Allah’s (God’s) command of sacrificing his son, Ishmael, as an act of his complete devotion to God’s command. However, just before the sacrifice, Allah intervened to Prophet Ibrahim that it was a test, and that a sheep (Kibas) was sacrificed instead. As a symbolic gesture of recognizing and honouring Prophet Ibrahim devotion and trust in Allah, Muslims across the world offer a four-legged animal, such as a sheep, camel or a cattle as a sacrifice to Allah on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha.

In Malaysia, Muslims celebrated 2017 Hari Raya Haji on Friday (Sept 1) with morning prayers at the mosques, and later performed the Qurban activities, particularly at mosques that are located within or around residential areas.

Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman, SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah) performed his 2017 sacrificial ritual act or Qurban at Kampong Tebongon Putatan Mosque on 2 September 2017 (Saturday). The Qurban was conducted in accordance to Islamic traditions as symbolic gesture of thanking Allah for His countless blessings that He has bestowed upon him, his family, SIDMA College as well as those people around him, as well as to fulfilled his part of sharing based on his sharing mentality – sharing his earning to poor and needy.

During the event, Dr Morni, together with his close relatives, friends and staffs sacrificed two cattle which were the Qurban according to the religious rites, and the meat was shared and distributed among the less fortunate, the needy and the poor village folks of Kg Tebongon, Putatan and its surroundings.

The gesture also served as a reminder to individuals or families who can afford to contribute for the Qurban to donate it to a mosque; as a gesture of being thankful to Allah for His many blessings, and practice the willingness to share their good fortune through the act of charity and compassion to those who are less fortune or needy.

During the event, Dr Morni took the opportunity to donate ONE (1) unit of Daikin Inverter 1.5hp Air-Conditioner for the usage of Surau Kg Tebongon. The air-con is 64% more energy efficient and cooler and will help the daily prayers as well as during any religious activity conducted at the Surau to have a more conducive environment.

The general community of Kampung Tebongon, Putatan conveyed their special appreciation and sincere thanks to Dr Morni and family, the Management, staff and students of SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah for the assistance, concern, caring and sharing mentality shown to the Kg Tebongon community, particularly on this special occasion.

“May Allah accept yours and ours right doings”
