SIDMA COLLEGE UNITAR Sabah Overall Champion in the MASISWA 2017 Again Print

SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah emerged victoriously for the fifth time in the recently concluded 2017 Sabah Zone of the Private Higher Learning Institutions Sports Council (Majlis Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Swasta (MASISWA)) Sports Carnival more popularly known as Masiswa 2017. The grand event which was held from 28-30 July 2017 at Tun Adnan Sports Complex, Yayasan Sabah was participated by seventeen (17) of Private Higher Learning Institutions based in Sabah.

During the event SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah captured a total of five (5) Gold, three (3) silver and two bronze medals to emerge as the Overall Champion of the year. The First Runner-up went to University College Sabah Foundation, whereas Institut Sinaran was placed third.

Among the games contested during the three days event were Badminton, Chess, Futsal, Netball, Ping-Pong, Tenpin Bowling, and Volleyball. SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah contingents participated in all the events and won the following:

Hon. Datuk Louis Rampas (Chairman, Sabah Sports Board) who represented Hon. Datuk Tawfiq Bin Abu Bakar Titingan (Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports) during the closing and prize presentation ceremony congratulated the athletes for being good sportsmanship throughout the competition. He too encouraged them to continuously improve themselves, be physically, mentally and spiritually fit and be ever ready in order to achieve high sporting spirit. Malaysian youths need to be fully involved and participates in all state and national activities such as this to be more competitive as it can contribute in various ways to their community and to the nation.

Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman SIDMA College) congratulated SIDMA’s contingent for capturing the overall championship trophy of the event for the fifth time, despite the college not having any playing field for the athletes to making their necessary tactical preparation. He also took the opportunity to convey his special appreciation and thanks to SIDMA College staff, particularly, Mr Terence Boyd Stephens (Acting Head, Students Affairs Department), as well as all other staff who were involved directly and indirectly in building the students teamwork, mental, physical and spiritual preparation prior and throughout the competition. He, too, especially praised Madam Salumah Nain for continuously nurturing her netball team, and since 2013, the team has been bringing home Gold Medals for the college – an impressive five gold medals for 5 years in a row.

He took the opportunity to announce that SIDMA College has agreed to host the game in 2018, and he hoped that SIDMA Community will make all the necessary preparation in advance to keep with its slogan “SIDMA College – Champion of Change”
