In conjunction with the festive celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Eid Mubarak, Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman SIDMA College) though SIDMA College collaborated with SIDMA Islamic Student Club (GAMSIS), Student Representative Council (SRC) and Restoran SariBonda, (a restaurant located at Jaan Bundusan); organised a “Ramah-Tamah Aidilfitri” at SIDMA Atrium on 18 July 2017 for all SIDMA staff and students to mark the end of month of Syawal and also the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration at the college.

Hari Raya celebration in Malaysia, as in all other festive celebrations, are unique as it focuses on building on relations, the existing and new ones; SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah, being a miniature multi-cultural and multiracial democratic institution where everyone live, study, share, play and enjoy live together in harmony. As a college with many cultural background, the college celebrates many festivals annually; and what makes this a 1SIDMA Affair are the “open house” concept held during each of the festival, be it Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Kaamatan Festival or Christmas; where both staff and students of the college mingled together in harmony without much protocol.

Dr Morni in his officiating address expressed his pride in the college for celebrating such annual events meaningfully. He encouraged all SIDMA community to continue practicing selflessness, humility, openness, inclusiveness, and patience as such universal values are very much in line spirit the Ramadhan and Aidilfitri celebration. During such gathering, many will ask for forgiveness between them for misdeeds done in the past, which means that we can start building a closer bond or relationship together and be much more united.

He too took the opportunity to convey his appreciation towards GAMSIS. SRC, Madrasah Jamiatul Fathi, Al-Mughni Orphanage Management Association, staff and students for their collaboration in assisting the college to implement various religious and Corporate Social Responsibilities through programmes such as the distribution of “bubur lambuk” to assist the needy and the deprived individuals during the month of Ramadhan, as well building closer bonding with the stakeholders and the general community.

Earlier in his welcoming address, Mr Mohd Faridzwan Bin Abdul Salleh (Chairman, GAMSIS) on behalf of the organising committee convey their appreciation to Dr Morni for giving them the full mandate to implement such a big function. He added that it’s through conducting such activities that provide them continuous interaction between their colleagues, lecturers, tutors and friends that has enable to get access to quality learning in increasingly diverse contexts as well as equipping them with soft skills especially in organising an annual event that can be utilised or applied in the real working world once they graduated.

The organising committee also selected various creative and innovative activities for their guest ranging from Malay Quatrain Competition, Guess the Word, Guess the Song, Finish my Sentence, Musical chair as well as several performance from the student music band; and to keep them entertain, several lucky draws and mystery gift were given out during the event.

Apart from fostering closer relationships from all rank and files, during such activities various types food ranging from “ketupat” “lemang”, “nasi pandan”, and “rendang” to cakes and “kuih raya”; and the highlight for the food served was the specially prepared delicious and fulfilling “Nasi Biryani” cooked by Dr Morni specially for the event were served for everybody’s out to have a great time in the presence of good food and great company.
