Ramadhan Al-Mubarak, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar is one of the most important and reflective times of the year. It is the month blessed with peace, joy, forgiveness, and the month of revelation of the Holy Quran, and many more. Muslims throughout the world focus on prayer, fasting, and offering charity as well other religious devotion. Apart from being a time of prayer and self-reflection, it is also a “festive” season for extending goodwill and harmony greetings to all brotherhoods, near or afar.

In conjunction with this 2017 Holy Month of Ramadhan, SIDMA College in collaboration with Madrasah Jamiatul Fathi, organised the annual Al-Quran Recitation Programme - Tadarus Al-Quran and Tazkirah from 8.30 a.m.– 10.30 a.m. for SIDMA staff as well as the Muslims community staying nearby. The ladies perform their recitation at the Madrasah, while the male perform it at the Surau.

The main objective of this programme is to fill the month of Ramadhan with spiritual activities apart from fasting, as well as to encourage greater understanding of Al-Quran amongst its Muslim staff. This activity is also one of the college’s social responsibilities towards the public and the Muslims community staying nearby, it is hopeful that, through this yearly activities, participants would gain its benefit both socially and spiritually during through the holy month.

The recitation consisted of the thirty chapters (juz) in the Holy Al-Quran led by Mr Abu Saied Safwan and Ustazah Rohaya Binti Ruslan. The Al-Quran Recitation activity was be held daily (during week days) throughout the month of Ramadhan and is also to the public of all ages.

In conjunction with Nuzul Al-Quran Day and also the Tadarus program is already reaching its 29th juz, on 12 June 2017, SIDMA Muslim staff held special Al-Quran recitation headed by Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman, SIDMA College) at SIDMA Atrium. Also present during the event was Ustaz Musa bin Ali from Masjid Nurul Hikmah, Bukit Padang.

Part of the objective of the program is to pray and be thankful to Allah for making it easy for us to read Quran and obtain its reward. Allah the Almighty says, "Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most suitable." (Al Israa: 9).

It is not unknown to anyone the merits of reciting and memorising the Quran. There are many Ayas and Hadiths that highlight this fact, examples of which are:

Ibn Masood reported that Messenger of Allah said, "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter."

Abdullah ibn Amr narrated that the Prophet PBUH said, "one who was devoted to the Quran will be told to recite, ascend and recite carefully as he recited carefully when he was in the world, for he will reach his abode when he comes to the last verse he recites.

Moreover, reciters of the Quran are promised to be among Allah's favourites as mentioned in the Hadith as narrated that Anas ibn Malik said, "the Messenger of Allah said, 'Allah has His own people among mankind.' they said, 'O Messenger of Allah, who are they?' He said, 'the people of the Quran, the people of Allah and those who are closest to Him'." And Allah knows best.
