SIDMA College Ihya Ramadhan Al-Mubarak 2017. Print
Monday, 29 May 2017 09:46

The month of Ramadhan is upon us; and as the Prophet mentioned in this good hadith that when the month of Ramadhan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and that the devils are chained (Bukhari & Muslim).

With just a day left between us and the blessed month of Ramadhan, the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, Madrasah Jamiatul Fathi and Al-Mughni Orphanage Management Association of SIDMA College, on behalf of Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman of SIDMA College) started preparing SIDMA staff, not just physical, but also mentally to embark the month-long spiritual journey of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection, for the next 29 or 30 days. They had lined up a host of numerous religious and social corporate obligations and commitment to be implemented throughout the holy month of Ramadhan 2017 at SIDMA College City Campus.

On 26 May 2017, Dr Morni Hj Kambrie, (Founder and Chairman, SIDMA College) launched the SIDMA Ihya Ramadhan Al-Mubarak 2017 Programme at SIDMA Atrium, beginning 4.00 pm by hosting  a Communal Thanksgiving Prayer and Hi-Tea (Majlis Doa Selamat dan Kesyukuran) at SIDMA Atrium for the staff. .During the occasion, Dr Morni also distributed packages of dates (kurma) to all Muslim staff.

Ustaz Musa Bin Ali was invited to conduct special prayer during the Majlis Kesyukuran. Also present during the simple but meaningful ceremony were Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), Madam Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Marketing and Business Development), Managers and Heads of Departments.

Dr Morni in his short speech reminded the staff that fasting is not to make us hungry and thirsty, or to deprive us some of our comfort and conveniences, but to be conscious and cognizant of Allah. It is one’s best to live by Allah’s commands and to avoid His prohibitions, fear of Allah, worship Allah, sincerity in faith, and avoid disobedience to Allah. He added that it’s during fasting that one learn how to say “NO” to things that are otherwise permissible and good, but are forbidden during fasting. Fasting also teaches us to be empathy and sympathy, and it takes away some of our selfishness and self-centeredness.

Dr Morni will host the annual 2017 Iftar (Majlis Berbuka Puasa) Dinner for all SIDMA staff at Sabah Oriental Hotel, Kota Kinabalu on 5 June 2017 and he personally invited all staff to attend the function.

Prior to the Iftar Dinner, a religious talk (Tazkirah) for the staff will be held, beginning 4.00 pm on 5 June 2017 at the same place. Another religious talk will be held on 12 June 2017 at SIDMA College for the Muslim students. Renowned guest speaker(s) will be invited for both the occasion, and Dr Morni encouraged all Muslim staff and students to attend and benefit from both the events.

Among some of SIDMA’s annual Ramadhan activities are Tarawih and Tadarus Al-Quran to be held at SIDMA Atrium for both the staff and students. As currently the students are away for their semester break, both these activities will be held beginning 5th June 2017.

During Ramadhan, Madrasah Jamiatul Fathi also plans to have Tadarus Al-Quran session to enhance staff and students in reciting the 30 juz in the Holy Al-Quran during the holy month.

Another customary event organised by SIDMA College is the distribution of packed spiced porridge (bubur lambuk) to various selected mosques in the district of Penampang and Kota Kinabalu City will be arranged throughout the month. The event will be held in collaboration with SIDMA staff, SIDMA Student Representative Council (MPM) and the SIDMA Islamic Student Club (GAMSIS). The porridge distribution will be held as follows
