SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah February 2017 Newcomers Oath Taking Ceremony. Print

On 7th April 2017, SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah Kota Kinabalu organised an Oath Taking Ceremony at Wisma Kinsabina Function Hall, Penampang to welcome the February 2017 new students. As early as 8.30 am, all of the new students, lecturers and staff had arrived, and were invited to attend the meaningful ceremony prepared by the organising committee.

The ceremony organised by Student Affairs Department (STAD) and the Students Representative Council (SRC) was to enable the February 2017 semester’s new students to formally promised and pledged the oath script to commit to the ethical practices, be active and responsible students of SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah, as well as to abide by all the rules and regulations of the college and UNITAR International University.

The event started off with the national anthem and the state anthem song, as well as the recitation of prayers by Mr Abu Saied Safwan and Madam Daria Joseph; followed by the opening ceremony cum motivational speech by the Honourable. Dr Hajah Ananglangka Binti Mad Kassim, an educationist by profession before her retirement from the Ministry of Education. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Education (Guidance and Counselling) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Master of Psychology Counselling and also PhD in Psychology from Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Dr Hajah Ananglangka who congratulated and praised the new students on their admission into SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah reminded the students that they should be grateful to be here today. She even coined a new acronym for SIDMA College, as follows to remind the students that they should always be grateful to the college and their parents:

 

S : Syukur / Sabar / Senyum
I : Iman / Ilmu / Insaf
D : Disiplin Diri
M : Mulia / Makmur / Maju
A: Akhlak

 

 

Dr Hajah Ananglangka who received numerous awards throughout her career, such as Excellent Service Awards in 1995, 2003 and 2013 from the Ministry of Education Malaysia; and the Darjah Bintang Kinabalu by His Excellency Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sabah in 2007; as well as the Anugerah Aspirasi Pascasiswazah in 2011 from Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Her unique speech was incorporated with poems and songs. She reminded the students to fulfil their roles and duties with commitment and with sincerity. She also encouraged them to carry out their responsibilities to the best of their ability; while upholding their principle and philosophy that they too can learn and be successful via SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah; to enable them to excel in their chosen field, and be able to bring honour to SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah in the future.

The oath taking ceremony was led by new student representative, Mr Mohd Ishmar Bin Mahmud; and followed by all the February 2017 semester’s new students. Their pledge was read before Dr Hajah Ananglangka, Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman), Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), Madam Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Marketing and Business Development), Mr Lim Chin Tong (Registrar), Managers, Heads of Departments, lecturers and staff of SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah.

During the special event, students who excelled in their studies were presented with Academic Excellence Award. Dr Hajah Ananglangka was given the honour to present the award to Constance Joy J Moin, Tracy Milton, Ewiejanny Binti Elok and Ruth Annable.

Earlier, Dr Morni in his welcoming address, sincerely thanked Dr Hajah Ananglangka for accepting the invitation to officiate the event and to give motivational talk to the students, despite her busy schedule.

He welcomed, thanked and congratulated the students for selecting SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah as the Institution of Higher Learning as their choice to make their dream come true; as the college, since its establishment in Sabah in 2002, has produced marketable and successful graduates who are currently holding respectable position in their careers in various fields, both in the private and public sectors throughout the country.

Dr Morni reassured the students that their welfare are in good hands as the college practices “Open Door” policy. He encouraged the students to do their bit by showing full discipline and commitment in their studies in order to materialise their dreams. Staffs of the college are ever ready to assist them in their studies, and that students experiencing any problems in their studies should approach the respective lecturer / tutors for assistance and guidance.

The ceremony concluded with the singing of the Keranamu Malaysia which was participated by all. Hi-Tea refreshment was provided for all those who attended the event.
