Prof. Dr. Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah) who was teacher by profession during his younger days, before transforming himself to a successful businessman in the education sector is well-known for his awareness and knowledge on schools and education. He has been invited by various sectors to conduct numerous motivational seminars to parents, teachers and secondary school students throughout Sabah and Sarawak, both in his own capacity, as well as with the Sabah Women Advisor Council (MPWS) under the leadership of Datuk Hajah Maimunah Hj Suhaibul, the current Sabah Education Director.

Dr Morni who has always been portrayed as a unique motivational speaker, is a guy who is well-known for his entertaining, captivating, highly interactive and energizing when he is on-stage delivering his message.

During his talks and sharing sessions, Dr Morni took those golden opportunities to share with parents, teachers and students his success stories from being a humble ordinary kampong boy selling locally made cakes to the public, but because of his strong personality to aim high, where since young he has harboured a bold and great ambition to earn his Ph.D. (Doctorate Title), and that was what brought him as he is today.

He used to describe the challenging life when he was young, as his father was then a pensioner and couldn’t sponsored his studies in England, and there are no other agencies that he could turn to, such as the current PTPTN, to finance his overseas studies,. But he stood firmly by his determination to get his PhD; and he worked at a McDonald’s outlet in England to finance his tuition fee to get his Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from Stirling University, England in 1990.

Being a successful businessman, he felt the need to complement and supplement the ongoing motivational programmes conducted in schools as well as at various other levels especially by the Ministry of Education, as part of his Corporate Social Responsibilities. He too felt that it is his opportunity to assist the government to ensure that all schooling children are able to complete their basic primary and secondary schooling, and thereafter to pursue the tertiary education in order to earn, or develop their choice of skills that they may need later in life especially their career. His main priority was basically to help parents to focus on their children’s schooling and education to achieve their maximum potential to make their dream come true; with special reference and unique touch from the corporate perspective.

Recently, Dr Morni was invited by Parent Teacher Association (PIBG) SMK Membakut II located one and a half hour drive from Kota Kinabalu to conduct a motivational seminar to more than 350 parents, teachers, and students at the school on 28th March 2017. The special gathering which was officiated by Encik Ahmadseh Bin Haji Ahmad, Beaufort District Education Officer. The school also invited representative from PTPTN as one of their other guest speaker to expose students on the conditions and guide to PTPTN loan.

During the seminar, Dr Morni who was assisted by personnel and assets from SIDMA’s Corporate Marketing and Business Development Department, Property Administration Department and Information Technology and Media Department incorporated his motivational talks with various exhibition which was aimed at enhancing awareness on importance of education opportunities for secondary school children to further their tertiary education, as well as on career and skills-building, lifestyle, opportunity available in social entrepreneurship, and the behaviour changing both among parents and students.

Dr Morni advised parents to show their concern, be more committed and caring towards their children’s education; as well as to encourage them to further their education after completing their SPM/STPM by seizing the available financial facilities available such as the PTPTN Loan, scholarship and more.

Through such humble sharing, Dr Morni hoped that students can reflect on his thought and ideas, and to find meaning in their life; constantly developing new strategies and their own strengths to overcome adversity; which in turn could inspire them to take action and view their situation from a different perspective. He too reminded them that they themselves have a role and responsibility to discover their own strength and weakness; to progress from their strengths, and improve on their weaknesses.

Dr Morni who was very impressed with huge turnout of parents and students of the school, and their warm welcome towards him and SIDMA staff, sponsored hampers for lucky draws during the event.

Dr Morni also conveyed his sincere thank you address to Beaufort District Education Officer, SMK Membakut II School Principal, PIBG, teachers, parents and students of the school for making the event a very successful one.
