SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah Muslims students have been reminded to perform “Hijrah” for the cause of Allah S.W.T. This was one of the most important point conveyed by Mr Mohd Azry Hairie Bin Abd Razak (Exco Masyarakat & Kebajikan Persatuan Siswazah Sabah) during the monthly religious sharing session held at SIDMA College Atrium on 2 March 2017. The topic selected for this gathering is “Should We Do Hijrah?” The promising event was organised by Gabungan Mahasiswa / Siswa Kolej SIDMA (GAMSIS).

During the special sharing session, Mr Mohd Azry discussed in depth on the concept of “Hijrah” the Arabic word for migration, which was adopted during Prophet Muhammad’s time. The Hijrah refers to the Prophet’s migration from Mecca to Madinah which took place in twelfth years of His mission (622 CE), which lead to the beginning of the Muslim Calendar.

Hijrah is emigration, an emigration of the body and the spirit; a physical movement from one place to another and a spiritual migration to Allah S.W.T. and His Messenger (peace be upon Him). It is this migration which constitutes the real migration, as the body simply follow the soul. So, the meaning of moving from one thing to another is that the heart moves from the love of something other than Allah S.W.T. to love of Allah S.W.T.; from servitude of something or other to the service and worship of Allah S.W.T.; from fear of something or other to hope in and reliance upon Allah S.W.T. It is Allah S.W.T. Who is the object of one’s hope and fear; prayers are addressed to Him only; and He is the One before Whom one feels humility and awe. (So flee to Allah).

Thus Muslim college students have been urged to leave a bad way of life for a good or more righteous way – such as practicing the way of life as stated in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah. Hijrah is a matter of intention. The Prophet (peace be upon Him) was quoted, as narrated by Umar Ibn Al-Khattab; “Indeed actions are but by intention, and each will be rewarded according to his intent. So whose goal is to migrate for Allah S.W.T. and His Messenger, his migration is for Allah S.W.T. and His Messenger, and whose aim is to migrate to some worldly gain or to take the hand of a woman in marriage, his migration is to that which he has sought. Mr Mohd Azry too stressed that as a student, “hijrah” can be used as daily practices to develop oneself to achieve success.

The gathering which began at 5.30 pm, started off with a series of communal prayer (Solat Maghrib, Bacaan Surah Yassin dan Solat Isya’). Buffet dinner was prepared for all the participant of the session thereafter.

Mr Azwie Bin Ahamat (GAMSIS President) on behalf of Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah), took the opportunity to thank Mr Mohd Azry Hairie for his valuable time spent with the college students, and for the very thoughtful and pragmatic talk that he has conveyed. He hoped that all who attended the session to benefit from it, and hoped that more GAMSIS members to participate in this GAMSIS valuable monthly activities.
