Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday for the Chinese. It is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar. The date is different each year on the Gregorian calendar, but is always between January 21st and February 20th each year. Chinese New Year 2017 in Malaysia falls on Saturday, January 28th 2017.

According to Kenny Hoo; a feng shui master he foretell 2017 is the year of the “fire Rooster” and in the Chinese zodiac is dubbed as the “Year of New Opportunities”. To usher in the new year of the Rooster, Unified SIDMA Chinese Language Society (USCLS) with the assistance and collaboration from all different departments of SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah created a Chinese New Year festive atmosphere at the campus with lanterns, red and gold paper decorations, good luck scrolls and beautiful red banners as symbol to welcome the year of the Rooster.

On January 24th, 2017 SIDMA staffs celebrating the auspicious New Year were invited to receive Chinese New Year goodies in the form of Mandarin oranges and hamper containing Chinese New Year delicacies from Puan Azizah Khalid Merican, CEO SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah. The distribution of the goodies was coordinated by SIDMA Staff Welfare Association (PKKKSS).

The distribution of giveaways to staff during special Malaysian Annual Festival such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Tadau Kaamatan and Christmas celebrations has become an important component of SIDMA College Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR); to share the joyful moments during such celebrations. It is also meant to recognise the good services rendered by all throughout the year; and also to encourage the spirit of collegiality between the staff and the college management team.

Meanwhile Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah), Puan Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Relations and Business Development), Puan Azizah Khalid Merican, Mr Zain Azrai Bin Mohd Noor (Chairman, PKKKSS), Managers and Heads of Departments took the opportunity to wish “Happy and Prosperous New Year” to all lecturers, staff, students relatives and friends.
