The Huguan Siou, who was the Guest of Honour during the SIDMA Kadazandusun Language Club Fundraising Dinner held at Magellan Sutera Harbour Grand Ballroom, Kota Kinabalu on 7 October 2016, in his keynote address added that the effort was very fruitful, as the outcome of the essay writing competition has led to the publication of a book entitled: “Inspirasi Anak-Anak Sabah”. The book which will be published in two volumes (Volume I and II) and contained a compilation of the short stories selected from the competition which was participated by more than 170 secondary schools students from all over Sabah. Among some of the highlights of the book are legendary articles such as “Siou Dia Ama”; “Koposian Songulun Tanak”. SIDMA Staff Welfare Association (PKKKSS) together with academic staff organised a Farewell Gathering for SIDMA staff who were appointed as Interim teachers by Sabah Education Department recently. The gathering which was held on 30 September 2016 at the SIDMA Academic Lobby for the seven SIDMA staff who are leaving SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah to say goodbyes to old and depart friends.

SIDMA staff who received their appointment as INTERIM Teacher are (i) Ms Norizan Ahmad (ii) Mr Chenol Octovean Yusin (iii) Ms A. Jessecinta Binte Janais (iv) Ms Gracey Binte Raymond and (v) Mr Roy Annado Francio Andu. (Mr Swenson Jr Godfrey Johniu who also received his letter of appointment as Interim Teacher, but however rejected the offer as he is very satisfied working with the college as Academic Coordinator and Examination Secretary).

Two other staff namely Puan Anizah Binti Daud (Academic Coordinator) and Mr Mohd Nor Rashid Bin Marzuki (Fiona Travels and Tours Sdn Bhd) also expressed their desire to leave the organisation for their own personal reasons were also given the opportunity to share their views during the unique session.

Initially, the gathering was meant to be an enjoyable one, for everyone to enjoy and share their last moments together before saying farewells to the departures with a smile instead of tear. The organiser took effort to add music to the background of the event. However, saying goodbyes to your old or depart friends is always a heavy task and difficult, unavoidable and often very sad. You don’t want to say goodbye to your good team players, but at the same time you are aware about the need and importance of their departing. No matter whether you like it or hate it eventually they have to say farewells which no one can actually avoid.

Thus the situation of the day was indeed tensed with everyone experiencing mixed feelings, especially when the departing friends touched on leaving this college, and all their nice colleagues who have made them so valuable and special, sharing jokes, sharing and exchanging experiences which had made so much matured, experienced and a professional who is very able and be prepared to move ahead.

All of them expressed their sincere appreciation to Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Founder and Chairman SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah), Puan Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), Puan Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Relations and Business Development), Managers, Heads of Departments and colleagues for their expert mentoring and support during their term of work in the college. They admired the fact that they had the opportunity to work with people who possess capable leadership and supervision skills, visions and directions, which had empowered them to reach their professional goals in the very near future. They wished SIDMA College the very best in all its endeavours.

Mr Louis Jais, Academic Manager was given the honour to present token of appreciation from the Academic Department staff to the leaving staff.

Dr Morni who has always blessed his staff who are leaving for their heart desired career sincerely congratulated them on being appointed as Interim Teachers. He advised them to be effective 21st Century Teachers who treat their students as individuals with different characteristics, knowledge level, weaknesses, strengths, experiences, family background and many more; and to planned and teach them from who and where there are; and not from what they should learn for the day.

He conveyed his appreciation to both Puan Anizah and Mr Mohd Nor Rashid for their excellent service. He admitted that the college was indeed fortunate to benefit from your talent for all these years; and added that all of us at SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah will miss you. “Thank you, goodbye and we are really hoping to see you again,” he added.

Also present during the event were Puan Azlina Ngatimin, Director Corporate Relations and Business Development; Managers, Heads of Departments, lecturers and staff of SIDMA College.

Prof Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Chairman, SIDMA Board of Directors) collaborated with Puan Hajah Maimunah Suhaibul (Chairperson, Sabah Women’s Advisory Council - MPWS) and jointly organised “Program Sebening Kasih, Sejuta Harapan; Melestarikan Keluarga Bahagia” at Industrial Training Institute, Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu on 1 December 2015 as another of their on-going efforts to remind youths and students of  today that life isn’t always “a bowl of cherries”, but there is always the reality that things will change and improve.

The programme which was officiated by Honourable Datuk Hajah Jainab Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Ahmad Ayid, Sabah Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, was participated by about 300 students and youths from secondary schools and institutions of higher learning in and around Kota Kinabalu such as UiTM, UMS, SIDMA College, ILP, IKM, SMK Bandaraya, SMK Bandaraya II, Polytechnic, and more.

The event focused on the strengthening of the family, morality, spirituality through the popularization of self and family values, as well as family education. The organiser of the event gathered various renowned and related speakers to share their views on the organisation of preventive and rehabilitation work aimed at preserving psychological health of family, and efforts to address the issues of socialisation of “problem families”

Some of the renowned speakers of the day were:

(i)            Prof Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (SIDMA College, UNITAR Sabah)

(ii)          Puan Minar Yugat (Prison Fellowship Malaysia)

(iii)         Dr Hajah Ananglangka Binti Mad Kassim (Counsellor, SMK Perempuan, Likas)

Dr Morni reminded students and youths who are constantly searching for self-identity,  to avoid showing their affiliation with specific groups which would indulge themselves into expressing forbidden behaviours such as smoking, drinking, drugs, and even sexual activities or other alluring temptations, just to differentiate themselves from their parents, schools and the authorities.

He brought in two samples to share with the audience on how they had experienced tough times, feeling regrets, shame; and how they had suffered; as well as how they recover and feel stronger for having gotten through the experience.

Through such sharing sessions, it is hoped that today’s youth and students become comfortable with the complexities of the social ills. The greater the exposure to authentic real life experiences, the better prepared they will be to deal with ambiguity and put their learning into practice.

“Wisdom is seeing and understanding life as a whole. The lessons we encounter as we travel our life paths invite us to grow wiser as we mature. Ultimately, our wisdom becomes our most trusted source of guidance in living. And when we share our wisdom, it becomes a touchstone providing inspiration, guidance and teachable moments for our loved ones as they may encounter similar experiences along their life journeys.”   ……Tarcie Bluse Ward.
